Natural Life

A precise selection of grape and the right location are the source of truly great wines. The soil variety and minerals act as an inflexible backbone of the wine. In the vineyard, compost, colourful flowering green vegetation, wild herbs and natural pest control ensure healthy growth. Fully flavoured and ripened vine fruit and selection in the vineyard are part and parcel of the estate philosophy of the absolute quality.

The ecologically based management of the vineyard ensures the creation of a special yeast flora on the vines and grapes, which is crucial for the later (natural) fermentation in the cellar.

Our vineyards are located around Langenlois where the Kamp Valley opens out to the southeast. Precisely at this point, at the intersection of two climatic zones, two air currents are created. During the day the warmth from the southern Danube level is drawn upstream along the river Kamp. At night cool air from the Waldviertel flows downhill over the slopes of the vines. This symbiosis of vines, weather and soil types, contributes to the great flavour potential of our wines and is the hallmark of their “terroir”.
