Origin matters. We live with the awareness that good wine thrives only in great vineyards. Carefully selected vine-genetics and the right location are the source of truly great wines whose soils and sites act as their unwavering backbone.
Our pursuit of balance originates in the vineyard. We use the resources available to us with caution. Our vines are tended by hand, along with the abstinence of herbicides we are aiming for the sustainable production of valuable wines. Compost, colourful flowering, green vegetation, wild herbs, and natural pest control ensure vital soils and healthy vineyards. The ecologically based management of the vineyards helps preserving the natural yeast flora on the vines and grapes. It later plays a decisive role in the cellar, depending on the condition of the fruit. Fully flavoured and ripened vine fruit and selection in the vineyard are part and parcel of our philosophy of the highest quality.
With an annual average of around 9 °C the Kamptal is one of the coolest Austrian winegrowing regions and thus boasts ideal conditions for extraordinary white wines. Shortly before Langenlois, where primary rock and loess collide, the side-valley of the Danube opens out to the southeast, making room for the wine. Two air currents dominate the Kamptal microclimate: During the day the warmth from the southern Danube is drawn upstream along the river Kamp. At night cold air from the Waldviertel flows downhill over the slopes of the vines, enabling the grapes to ripen in cool conditions. It is in this climatic borderland where we precisely carve out the character of each individual vineyard.
